About me

Contemporary Art - Painting - Chameleon Pictures

Johann Zagler, born on September 9, 1953, following an old family tradition became a master butcher. Independent business owner till 1999, after that an autodidact in fine arts.

If you look at modern art from a very short distance, you will soon realize that you can only sense a few forms and colours. On the contrary, if you look closer to a classic flemish painting, you can nearly see every thread on a depicted piece of cloth.

With a lot of effort and exercise, I found a way to express my mood and depict my aesthetic aspirations even in the smallest detail of my artwork. I developed a new method of painting with a multilayered stamp, which is used straight or rotating to create just a few lines on the canvas.

This technique mystifies the genesis of the curves. That is what inspires me to create new paintings.

On different surfaces – like canvas, glass, carton or resopal – i use mostly acryl and spray paint.

The paintings of the serie „panta rhei“ („everything flows“) can even be regard intently with a magnifier to face new dimensions. On the other hand, the serie „forest“shows impressions and imprints of the local wood fabricated on canvas and carton in mixed techniques.
